Today I need to share with you the two best bits from the Mexico gigs, both on the second night, Sept 13.

ITEM ONE:
Here is a video of Noel directing the crowd to do the poznan, which is the Manchester City football club's special celebration dance. Liam's been having the crowd do it the whole tour, but this time he talked Noel into doing the explanation for the first time.

So much to observe here:
- Liam: "I've seen you do it," probably referring to this memorable occasion when Noel definitely did not do it.

- Noel greeting them in Spanish.

- Noel: "Not asking you to do the okey-cokey." 😅

- Noel explaining the correct process very clearly and efficiently, which is not something one would ever say about Liam's approach.

- But best of all: Noel saying "The big man doesn't ask for much," and then pausing to laugh at the utter and profound absurdity of this remark.

ITEM TWO
And here is Noel miming that Liam should throw his sombrero to the crowd (having already thrown his maracas and tambourine), and Liam handing it to him so HE can throw it. This is also the first time Noel's thrown anything on the tour AFAIK.

They're just having so much fun together and being so charming about it. Incredible. Not in our WILDEST DREAMS did any of us in the fandom dream anything like this was possible.

Daily Happiness

1. I got my covid and flu shots today. Since I didn't have any meetings or other time-sensitive things this morning at work, I just stopped in the same medical offices where I'd made my appointment for next week and asked if they were doing walk-ins, too, and they were. Had to wait about ten minutes or so, but otherwise it was over pretty quickly. Carla hasn't been able to get hers yet because she's sick. D: (First test said not covid, but she's going to keep testing throughout the duration to make sure. So far I am not showing any signs of catching it, but we'll see. It is hard to avoid each other in our smallish house, though at least since it's summer all the windows and doors are open and the fans going all the time, so there's a lot of air circulation.)

2. Molly just loves this scratcher/ball toy. Sometimes for the scratcher, once in a while for the ball, but mostly just to lie on. It's apparently very comfy.

fandom: critical role

Critical Role

Two fandom-related posts in a row? Really? I can't even remember the last time that happened.

Critical Role has its fourth campaign starting in just over two weeks, and they posted the first artwork of the new characters earlier this week. They haven't released any other details like classes and such, but I'm very, very, very curious about several of them. Especially since they posted a video earlier today about character vibes, some of which sound kinda amazing.

The fandom is definitely ramping up again, which is helping with forcing my brain to get through watching as many of the specials that I've missed as I can before CR4 starts. I've missed having a proper weekly fandom, and I really want to try to get back in the habit of napping after work on Thursdays so that I can stay up late watching the new episodes live.

Yuletide!

Yuletide nominations are officially open, which means I have to get my ass in gear and actually figure out what I want to request and nominate this year.

A couple of my usual requests are almost always nominated by other people, so I can hopefully scratch those off the list. That doesn't help narrow it down a lot, though, because I've written down a frankly ridiculous number of fandoms this year that I've been considering requesting.

Right now, I'm leaning towards the following for my nominations:

1. My knee is sore today but the other aches and pains I had last night when trying to get to sleep seem to have gone away in the morning.

2. I had two meetings today and both were cancelled!

3. I made an appointment to get my covid shot next Monday, which was the soonest I could get an appointment, though I might drop in tomorrow on the way to work and see if they have any walk-in availability (it said limited walk-ins online), as there is a location offering them close to work.

4. Ollie has such impressive eyebrows.

- Yuletide nominations are upon us!! I don't know how this happened so fast, but here we are.

- AO3 is canonizing more freeform tags! Very, very slowly! This latest update includes cosmic horror and clit play, among others.

- Regal is doing a giant horror October release thing, with a classic horror movie every day of the movement (for variable definitions of classic). Because Regal's marketing is absolute pants, I couldn't find an official announcement of this anywhere, but here's a comprehensive listing on Reddit.

- I started posting my Oasis WIP, one vignette a day, ranging from less than 300 words (today) to probably around 3k (the sex scene if I can ever finish it!!). It is here if you are inclined to read along. I don't think I've ever done daily fic posting in all my years of fandom, and I'm excited about it. And the response so far has been really nice. :)

- And as of Saturday I broke 70k for the year!!!

- Speaking of Oasis... just look at these bozos. Look how happy they are. Can you believe. 😭😭😭

Please note Liam has balanced his maracas AND his tambourine on his sombrero. A shelf hat, exactly what he has always wanted.

Daily Happiness

1. I slipped and fell during my walk this evening, but thankfully I just got my clothes wet and skinned my knee, nothing serious. I was walking down a hill and could see that someone had been watering and got it all over the sidewalk, but there weren't any puddles I didn't anticipate there being any issue walking through it, but some of the sidewalk squares were completely smooth rather than rough as they usually are, so there was no grip to them and I slid and fell and scraped one knee. It looked bad but when I got home to clean it up, it turned out most of the mess was dirt and there was only a little scraping and bleeding. Could have been a lot worse! Thankfully I had my phone with me and could have called Carla to pick me up if I hadn't been able to walk, but I made it home on my own.

2. I had several meetings today, which didn't leave a lot of time for actual work, but I did finish another of the tasks I've been assigned. I'm making progress!

3. Jasper's so casual.

Rosie is getting married tomorrow, so today was the last class for a fortnight. She was going on annual leave after our class finished, and was such a happy mood. So, while she was still evil!Rosie, she was being so while full of joy which was lovely to see. The class got her a signed card, which she seemed touched about, then she was off, checking out of work to do some last minute wedding prep.

I was also at the doctors this morning ( cut for medical stuff )

We did a craft fair on Saturday gone. Sadly, it wasn't the best attended, and we only made a profit of £35 after paying for the table. But, that was £35 more pounds than we'd had that morning, and stock was sold, which was great. Even better, the organiser offered us a regular spot at the makers market in our town. Funnily enough, that happens in the same hall we use for weight management class, on the third Saturday of each month. So, that's this Saturday coming, where hopefully, more people turn up and more stock will be sold. And if it's quiet, I've told James I'll sneak away and leave him to it and have an hour in the gym *g*

We also went to see the new Downton Abby film on Friday. The clientele amused me as the screen was full of ladies carrying in their glasses of wine, but they were all so excited, it made for a lovely atmosphere, especially as nearly every seat was full. ( cut for spoilers )

Sometimes Purrcy is just such a funny little gremlin, wiggling around lovingly, showing the trap that is the soft soft underbelly.

In college I got in the habit of taking my shower at night to avoid the rush & I never stopped. Nowadays Purrcy often comes in after I'm done to Stalk the Wild Drips, and he'll mew at me if there aren't enough.

This past week was officially Too Much. I've been spending too much time on social media, doomscrolling and distractionscrolling. And then reading things to distract my self, and playing particularly pointless games, which in my case is using our NYTimes Games subscription to play Tiles over & over & over again, especially the New Haven tileset, which is just colors, no patterns.

I've got a lot to *do*, but I'm so agitated by the Horrors. I was really worried last week that we were heading for a full Reichstag Fire event. Now I've *got* to wean myself off social media, which at this point is just Bluesky, and buckle down and deal with my to-do list. Maybe I'll try adding a sentence to my DW post draft every time I feel tempted to open it up again, see how that works.

1. I finished another puzzle this morning.

This was from the same company as the pottery one, so it has weirdly shaped pieces and curves and flat-edged pieces that aren't actually part of the border, and I'm still not sure how I feel about that, but it was fun to do. This brand doesn't have a ton of puzzles that actually appeal to me, but I wouldn't rule out getting something from them in the future.

2. It was nice and overcast for most of the day today but soooooooo muggy. But I'd rather have overcast and cool(er) and muggy than sunny and hot and muggy.

3. I made another rhubarb pie this morning. We still have so much rhubarb lol. After having so much trouble finding it for years, we went a little overboard buying it from the lady at the farmers market. But it's all nicely chopped up and portioned into baggies in the freezer, so we can take our time using it.

4. On one of our walks today we saw the giant tortoises out in the yard and they were eating carrots! We do see them fairly often, but usually just eating grass.

72%. Sequel to A Dictionary of Scoundrels. Middle grade murder mystery. I hope there will be more in the series after this as I have enjoyed these a lot. I'm listening to this one as an audiobook and like the narrator.

The Murder Next Door
64%. Historical f/f murder mystery. I'm enjoying this so far, though I had to keep checking to make sure this really was the first in the series as it kept referencing things at the beginning that made it sound like there was another book before this.

The War on Alcohol: Prohibition and the Rise of the American State
No progress.

I enjoyed this! Looking forward to the next book in the series.

The Map of the Stars
Final book in the York series. Despite being over 500 pages long, it felt really rushed and slapdash at the end, and left a lot of loose ends. This series had a lot of really neat ideas and was overall a fun read, but seemed to have trouble wrapping it all up satisfactorily. (A huge number of reviews on Goodreads have similar caveats.)

Eerie Basin
Short horror story about a woman who wants to take over the bar she works at when her boss retires, but he refuses to, saying that it's cursed. This was all right, but felt very predictable.

The New Girl
Cute middle grade graphic novel about a girl who moves to Quebec from Romania and struggles to fit in due to the language barrier. It seems to be heavily inspired by the author's own childhood, but set in the present day.

I Left the House Today!
Collection of web comics from the author of the book above. I actually did not realize that when I chose them (they were both showing on the new section in Hoopla), and The New Girl is definitely the better of the two. These comics were fine, just observations about life in general, but nothing that really grabbed me.
