I got cards! Thank you, Bettina and Mal! I ♥ y'all both! (am not coding because I'm crossposting from DW and therefore will fuck it up)

Speaking of fucking up... I had a dentist (well, hygienist) appointment yesterday that I totally flaked out on. I didn't realize it was the 28th already. IDEK, man. The lady I talked to at the office laughed at me but was very understanding. I don't know if they'll charge me for it or not. She didn't mention it and I was so wrapped up in embarrassment that I didn't think to ask. I rescheduled for the 11th when I have to go to the clinic for blood work anyway, so maybe I can remember this time.

This-- Subject: So if food is a fandom-- just might be my favorite thread in the history of ever. I actually giggled at a few of the comments.

Oh and speaking of crossposting, I really do not like the changes in the LJ commenting, so I'm going to start using my DW more and if you wouldn't mind commenting there, it'd be great but I won't remove commenting from the LJ posts because I hate not having a choice so I'm leaving it up to you. If I have you on my LJ flist but not my DW circle, please let me know so I can rectify that. I will not be deleting any duplicate journals from my LJ flist since my LJ is mostly flocked now and I don't want to remove access to older posts and comments. IDK, though, I've tried to use my DW more often before and it never lasts long. But it's not like I even post that much anywhere anyway.

Today might be the day I get caught up on reading both flist and circle. Maybe. Dunno. It depends on whether the (completely illegal*) Vicodin I'm probably going to have to take in a few minutes makes me sleepy or not. (I thought the Loestrin was supposed to make my periods more manageable but after 5 months on it...it's not.)

In more fannish news...I enjoyed the Doctor Who Christmas special quite a bit (as long as I neither think too much about it or read any discussion at all) and am very, very much looking forward to more Sherlock this weekend.

*illegal because my doctor kind of sucks. I told her the pain was so bad that I had to take my late MIL's Vicodin because OTC stuff just didn't do anything and all she said was "yeah, you shouldn't do that" and didn't volunteer to give me a prescription for painkillers of my own.

It is quite possible--no, extremely probable-- that I will regret this, but apparently that is not enough to stop me. Since I have broken up with Bob in a writerly fashion, this will never be more complete than it is right now and since I've been working on it for a very long time and it was intended to be a holiday gift for [personal profile] tempore last year, I figure why the hell not? Other people have posted unfinished stories and called them not!fic and the world didn't end. Of course, whether anyone still wants to read about Bob is a different kettle of fish.

Title: Day with Dinosaurs
Fandom: bandom RPS
Pairing: Matt Skiba/Bob Bryar
Rating: R-ish for language
Word count: ~1200
Notes/disclaimers/etc: Not true. Specifically takes place on August 2, 2011...but obviously AU since Bob is there. [personal profile] mahoni looked this over for me and there is one fleeting reference to the story she is currently writing, which will only become apparent once she posts. But today, that's not really important. I think we decided these take place in the same universe as Stuck In Your Head, so established relationship.

Summary: Bob makes Matt go with him to The Field Museum.

Matt knows he has been more hung over than this. He just can't quite remember when. )

Kind of Bob/Spencer-ish. For [livejournal.com profile] mrsquizzical. ~650 words.

Bob only took the job because it was Brian doing the asking. )

Dan just confirmed on Twitter that his Emergency Room record is coming out in August.

Now if we just had some dates for the new Trio record and the SKIBA record, I'd be even happier. Matt has already started writing for yet another side project in the meantime, which I find amusing as hell for some reason. It's like he can't help himself.

I just realized most of my icons on DW are not very cheerful. I might have to do something about that at some point.

So, I got most of my planting done today with a few things that'll have to wait until my next day off--which is Wednesday this week, for some reason.

Here's what I put out today: cut for people who don't care about lists )

Then after a shower, I painted my nails a spring-y light blue. That's fun.

It is amazing how much effect the weather has on my mood (I know it's the same for a lot of people but it's only something I've noticed in the last few years). The grief and the stress and all the assorted other crap of life haven't gone away by any means, but it's easier to deal with when it's 80 degrees and sunny with a nice breeze blowing.

That said, I'm so tired from not sleeping well last night I'm counting down the minutes until I can go to bed.

Trying to find new users to add to my circle over here by going through interests is very frustrating. Most of the journals I find that I might want to add haven't been updated in months.

Then I see that I haven't updated in 26 weeks. OOPS.

Anyway. Um, are there any active Alkaline Trio or Skiba fans over here? I'll also take PATD and PStump fans. Is there anyone in your circle that you think would be my kind of person? Please, leave me recs.

I know I have said this before and failed to follow up but I really do want to start using this thing. I just need more people to read and a better layout. And I need to set up Semagic or some other client because ugh webposting. I can't remember what tags I've used from one post to the next. heh.

But that's something for later this evening. Right now I'm going to go out and enjoy the sunshine and plant some flowers. I love spring. ♥

I get an odd sort of stagefright when I think about posting here. Any other weirdo lurkers feel that way? Or am I just extra weird? I guess everyone's all about crossposting now.

I think it's because I'm flocked on LJ and not here, and I don't know my circle as well as my flist (which I realize is my fault for not reading/commenting/posting more often). I do occasionally try to get into the spirit of things, but I just don't feel as comfortable over here. I'm a creature of habit and am resistant to change.

Title: Shift and Slide
Fandom: Bandom
Pairing: Bob Bryar/Matt Skiba from Alkaline Trio (click names for pics)
Rating: NC-17
Length: ~12,350 words
Disclaimer/summary/notes: It's all fiction. This is an AU in which Bob never met The Used or MCR, but continued doing sound for House of Blues and on some small tours, and he's been friends with Matt since they met in Chicago years and years ago. I didn't try to follow A3 canon timelines very closely. This is set in 2008 for reasons that may become obvious or may be completely irrelevant. Either way is okay.
Thanks to [personal profile] mahoni and lj user=jeeze_louise" for support and extremely helpful information, and massive thanks to [personal profile] nemoinis for support, beta reading, hand-holding, and not killing me when I insisted that this was the story I had to write right now and put everything else on hold.

Or angry in the case of those Primeval posts. heh. But I liked this week's episode much more except for one bit that made me go WTF, like, A LOT. But I haven't felt like typing up a post about it. Saving my strength to go back to work tomorrow. bleh.

Anyway, to the point of this post...

I'm so confused. I hadn't looked at DW for about four or five days. I've been sick and just not keeping up with anything. So I sat down today to get caught up and noticed that the usernames don't show up on the posts on my reading page, unless the post is in a comm and then the poster's name shows up but not the comm name. I have to hover over people's icons to see who they are or hover over the comment link to see what comm it is.

The thing that's really doing my head in at the moment is that I can't remember if the usernames were visible before I took my unintended sick leave or they weren't visible then either as a quirk of this particular style and I was too concerned with other things to notice.

Maybe I need to just take another break until new made-just-for-DW styles are available or something.

At the top of my journal--not the navigation bar, but in the actual journal layout, there's an extra link to memories called "unknown view" and I can't figure out how to get rid of it. (I thought it might be something here, but no.) It was there in the last journal style I had too, so maybe it's something weird in the custom layout code. Has anyone else noticed this or did I screw something up when changing the styles?

If I did screw up, is there a simple way to fix it? Because as I think we all know by now, I can only do simple. *g*

To illustrate that point: I really liked [personal profile] eisakay's layout and asked where she got it. When I followed the link, there were no pictures in the instructions, so I figured it was way too complicated. Now that I've gone through grrliz's illustrated steps a couple times, I might be able to do it, though. We'll see when I get tired of this layout and decide to try a new one.

Have changed my journal style again in search to find one as readable as my LJ one. Still not happy. Will try again in about a week or so. Or maybe I will just leave it until some more become available here at DW so it's easier to change.

I just went through and removed a bunch of openids of people who now have journals from my info page. I don't see what the point of having those still out there if they're not in use anymore. It makes the page look neater without them. I wish there was a way to remove a deleted one using the web interface, but if there is, I didn't see it. On LJ, I'd use semagic, but I don't use a client for DW yet. I should probably look into that if I'm going to use it much, because I'm not a fan of posting from the web. I like my keyboard shortcuts too much. :)

Does all the crossposting confuse anyone else? I'm never sure exactly how far back on DW I've already read because I see a lot of the same posts from LJ. So I'm wondering if read it here or I'd just seen it over there.

I just realized that all my posts on DW to date have made me look really simple minded. What a lovely first impression to be giving!
